Adaptability can be measured. That is the whole point.

Adaptability Plus grew out of a simple observation: the people who thrive through change are not the ones with the least to cope with, but the ones with the widest range of ways to respond. Those ways can be measured, and they can be developed.

Scientific background

Our instruments draw on three established bodies of research and bring them into one practical model.

Adaptability and adaptive performance

How people handle novel, uncertain and changing work demands: cognitive, behavioural and learning dimensions.

Resilience and recovery

How people regulate emotion, recover from setbacks and sustain energy, and how support and realistic optimism protect performance.

Psychological flexibility

The capacity to stay present, hold thoughts lightly, accept difficult experience and act in line with values. The basis of the Psychological Flexibility profile.

Evidence-based methodology

Each instrument follows the same four-stage development path before it is released on the platform.

1

Construct definition

Review the literature, define each component precisely and agree what strong and weak expressions of it look like in practice.

2

Item development

Draft statements for every component, including reverse-keyed items, and review them with practitioners for clarity and relevance.

3

Field testing

Administer the draft instrument to working adults and students, analyse item performance and remove or rewrite weak items.

4

Validation and scoring rules

Confirm reliability and structure, set development-level thresholds and write feedback for every component at every level.

Research foundation

The suite is the product of a sustained programme of instrument development with practitioners, organisations and universities.

Review

Construct review across adaptability, resilience and psychological flexibility research, producing the 27-component model.

Pilot

Paper questionnaires piloted with working adults and students, with item analysis after each round.

Practice

Instruments used in coaching, leadership development and student services, with feedback loops into item wording and exercises.

Platform

Eight instruments converted to digital delivery with automated scoring, reporting and an exercise recommendation engine.

Development philosophy

A score is only useful if it leads somewhere. Three principles shape everything on the platform.

Measure both sides

Functional and psychological adaptability are different capabilities. People deserve to see both, not a single number.

Feedback you can act on

Every component at every level has specific interpretation, a development focus and matched exercises. Nothing is left as a label.

Development, not judgement

Levels describe where practice will make the most difference. An Emerging score is a starting point, never a verdict.

The people behind the instruments

A small team of occupational psychologists, researchers and practitioners.
